Responsibility
You are practicing responsibility when you:
Be responsible. Do your best in all you do.
In school we can be responsible by:
Looking After our School Community
At Bishop Savaryn School we have responsible students who help to clean and pick up garbage that is around the grounds of the school.

We have students who dig up the dandelions that grow in our front lawn. We are responsible members of the community and try to keep weeds under control in our front lawn. As part of our school community service, students help with maintaining the front of our school by digging out the weeds.

Bishop Savaryn students collect and recycle all pop and juice containers. Grade five students are in charge of the recycling.

Grade Five students recycle everyday after lunch.

Library Helpers
Grade 5 students help in the library each day by shelving books and putting up displays. These children demonstrate that they are responsible by giving up their recess to shelve books and set up displays. They must also make sure that all books are shelved according to their number. They must remember which days they are on and show up in the library for their shift. Our library helpers are:

Patrols
Grade 6 students patrol our crosswalks to ensure that children can cross the streets safely. They patrol three times a day. They must be outside even when the weather is bitterly cold. In Edmonton the winter temperature is sometimes -35
° C without a wind and far colder when the wind-chill is factored in. The school patrols are always on duty no matter how cold or miserable the weather is. In the spring they begin training grade 5 students to take their place in the fall. Students who sign up to be a patrol need to be very responsible. The Grade 6 patrols for Bishop Savaryn School are:

Looking after the Community at Large: Warm Hearts Warm Tummies
This project is a continuation of the Warm Hearts Warm Hands Project
started last year as a social justice project.
As part of a community service project for confirmation, three grade six students organized, collected and delivered food to St. Michael for food hampers. Lance, Kyle and Ian encouraged students to bring food each day. They posted a tally each day recording donations from each classroom. They offered the incentive of a suitable movie and fresh
popcorn to the classroom that donated the most food items. The grade 6B classroom donated the most food for the food hampers. The total food donations for Warm Hearts Warm Tummies was 909 food items.

The students then delivered the food to St. Michael School with the help of their parents.

Virtues
Virtues are things that make the world a better place. This is a story about a lot of friends learning virtues, particularly the virtue of responsibility.
Meet Geri, a very responsible person. She is responsible whenever someone lends her something.
One day, everything changed. Not for Geri, but for a new person named Christina. Christina is a responsible person also. When they met, Geri got a bit mad because she wanted to be the only responsible person in the school. Unfortunately, Geri never really learned tolerance.

Responsibility
When you are being responsible, you take the blame for your actions, and do not try to make excuses. You are also responsible when you take care of someone who is younger than you are. If someone has misunderstood you, you are responsible if you try to make him or her understand. Responsibility is important if you want to grow up to be bright.
